One of our parents just suggested yesterday how he sees Memorial Private School. Speaking off the cuff, so to say – his take on it is well-said:

“Traditional values. Non-traditional methods.”

Because Memorial Private School is both highly unique and also a little like a same-old-school, it is sometimes difficult to describe, quickly. I love his description! How do some people pinpoint things so well? (Well, he is also a creative business web designer)

I am a born and raised SBISD girl, and of course I like that. We truly have excellent schools. I also like the way some people can choose to come to MPS because it will never even get bigger – it is cozy. There will be more of them (a Camp Education Group school) across the country, but only a couple in Houston.

This is a niche school, and one of the key values is that in keeping the student body small, it opens up a large world of learning, every day all day. It is helpful because we can more realistically manage and lessen the ‘stress and anxiety’ that we see a lot more of these days. We are innovative when we least expect it. It is a comfortable place that calmly leads the students to outstanding universities and to the direction that is really right for them.

This is our first blog.

Surprised and humbled at twenty years later.

I can hardly believe it has been twenty years since this dream of Memorial Private School began to come true. I love it when we meet the families that apply to this outstanding school. In some ways, Memorial Private School is so different, that I cannot believe how families “get” the value of a small, faith based school. It is exciting to see how more and more families reach out to Memorial Private School because it is so good for their whole family, not just their child. We dream of providing these schools across the city and the country so that every child and family have an option to come to one of our schools.

If you question whether your child’s school is really the best option for building their values, then you should come check Memorial Private out, along with your friends’ kids, in case it is the (almost) perfect fit.

At Memorial Private, we provide an atmosphere like no other, on purpose. Frankly, no one would bother opening another school this small! We have a maximum of 65 students, who go on to outstanding universities as well as particular choices of education that meet their needs. The atmosphere we build is based on humility, on keeping the vibe comfortable, and full of grace. The teachers are uniquely and specifically qualified in their subject area to prepare students for strong college prep careers. But the teachers and students themselves have a warm, calm relationship with themselves, their goals and their belief in a power higher than ourselves.

The surprising numberous events and activities are on-going, and the kids learn and grow every second of the day. They are growing more, instead of getting down and anxious.

The kids here build confidence, self-esteem, and even moreso, they find out they are known, and that builds social responsibility. Students build respect for themselves and others, and they graduate with increased confidence with who they were born to be. They graduate being themselves, and not trying to be like someone else. (for the most part). That is a huge way to start out a young adult life, leaving your cocoon. The faith-based foundation of the school makes the difference.

The key to Memorial Private is, among many different things, that we keep the school small enough, while being active enough, to be known, to be encouraged, and to grow – usually far beyond where our students otherwise may have not seen the potential they have. Among many other unique things about Memorial Private, one key differentiator is keeping the school small and active at the same time. AP and Honors classes are normal here, intentionally without inducing stress.
